The University of Colorado Boulder, or CU Gaming, is ranked 20th in this ranking. They began as a team developing games such as CS:GO before branching out into other genres such as Fortnite. The university made it to the Grand Finals of the Street Fighter V Throwback Series in 2020. The UCLA athletics department strives to provide their student-athletes with the best possible support system. Their teams play in Overwatch, LoL, and Rocket League, and they broadcast their highlights on their platforms, such as Twitch, Youtube, and Discord. In addition, they finished 15th in the $100,000 Fortnite North American Collegiate playoffs.

There are 175 colleges registered with NACE as part of the college esports movement. Some of the games in these leagues include Rocket League, Valorant, and League of Legends, all of which are played on campus by students. The University of South Carolina Sumter is one of the first schools to establish a varsity program. The scholarships are performance-based and game-specific, with $2,000 going to students with performance records. The University of Jamestown launched its varsity esports program in the fall of 2017.
